LEARNING IS ENGAGING

LEARNING IS ENGAGING,
(Youngsters learn better when they are exposed and when teachers are patient enough to teach them well, explaining and instructing them where they’ve gone wrong and showing them how they to achieve-Leading them to Success)

I have been teaching for merely five years now. As the days go by I’ve always been fascinated on how great a feeling could be whenever I am with my students. Seeing them like vending machines for money but trophies worth rewarding.

I have once been a student. I have tasted the sweetness and bitterness of being one. I’ve once been the apple of the eye and once been the taboo for some. Whatever my experiences were, I shall share the best and improve the others which weren’t sweet and glorious.

Allow me to share a part of my Primary years. I was six and half years old, I was once a ‘cutie in school. Almost everybody likes someone white-skinned and long haired like me, especially when you grow up in a far-away rural area of an island. However, this particular teacher did not like me much as most do. There was one time when she had Math lesson with us. It was my turn to count on the “abacus” and I needed to count at least up to one hundred. Just as I reached the ‘seventies’ (70’s), I counted-pronouncing the words like “sevente-five”. I didn’t know really what has gone wrong with me but that was what I’ve frequently heard from my ‘peers and playmates.

Out of anger, my teacher punished me and asked me to count over and over again. When all my classmates went home for lunch, I stayed for several more hours counting and counting. I was puzzled as to what’s wrong with my counting. I was taught how to count and I knew well I didn’t have a mistake nor had I not counted wrongly. All knew was I was frustrated to go home, I didn’t have anyone with me to walk home anymore and I lived about three to four kilometers from school. I was even more worried knowing that I may be late to come back to school after lunch.

Until recently, when I reached high school and became more exposed to diverse and open –learning environments then I realized; that was about ‘pronunciation’ that is what it was all about. I experienced that kind of cruelty just because of my pronunciation. And I believe that was unjust and improper from a teacher.

I did not want to keep recounting that experience, especially the teacher but I need to accept fact that I have been struggling to forget it. This kind of memory is a nightmare of my primary years something I wanted to bury but it stays within me. After several more years, I’ve had an encounter with that teacher again. This time, she was amazed as what I have become. I am now a person who can speak my mind and point of views. I now have the ability to tell whether I could agree and express my feelings and thoughts just how my environment gives to me.

I am no longer that helpless child, who could not ask questions and don’t receive answers as to why I am punished that way. I now could ask questions and get right answers. What’s more is that, I have wider understanding and refined professionalisms than that of my previous teacher. I am now a teacher by profession and I vow not to do the same with my students for any reason. I shall become more accommodating, understanding, helpful and loving to all of them. I have learned and proved myself that ‘LEARNING IS ENGAGING’.
Youngsters learn better when they are exposed and when teachers are patient enough to teach them well, explaining and instructing them where they’ve gone wrong and showing them how they to achieve-Leading them to Success.

This story is for teachers and aspiring teachers out there. God bless us all!

My Teaching Philosophy

My TEACHING Philosophy

My philosophy of teaching covers five articles with ten sections. Each article serves as an umbrella term for the whole principle. Each article has underlying sections which specifically states the following things about the article and gives primary and accurate reasons and explanations in support of the said article. Article one, states that: The teacher as the role model to her students. Section 0ne: The teacher should teach my students only the best. The teacher as the sole producer of knowledge should act as an editor at the same time. The teacher should carefully process the things that comes in and out of the classroom in this regard, students are believe to be intelligent in their own ways that’s why the teacher should respect this but should be able to detect the mistake in each student and immediately correct whenever possible. Section two states that the teacher should teach the students only the proper. Therefore the teacher is capable of eliminating the mistake and should give the correct. Section three states that the teacher should behave, act and decide properly, according to this article the teacher’s title should be matured enough to handle small and big problems encountered inside the classrooms. The teacher should not cry over little matters instead should be the one to settle conflicts and misunderstanding between the students. Article two states that: The teacher as the explainer of the lesson. The teacher should be a capable one who can teach the lesson with easiness. Therefore the section one of this article states that, the teacher should be a license teacher, someone who is qualified enough to teach and handle students. Article three suggests that a teacher should involve herself with her students in their lessons. Section one of these articles says that the teacher should mingle with her students in this way the teacher will get nearer with her students. Section two of this article suggests that a teacher should be approachable enough so that learning will flow smoothly. Article four says that a teacher should be an enabler, someone who’s capable enough of moulding and shaping her students. Section two states that a teacher should be able to control tha students and the whole classroom. Article five suggests that a teacher should be a qualified manager, section one of this section says that a teacher should be able to manage her class. Section two states that a teacher as a manager should be someone who manages not only the intellectual skills of students but someone capable of managing the atmosphere inside and outside of the school.
As a teacher I have the power to control the future in a manner most basic but difficult. The students, the young generations as the hopes of our world, as a teacher I have the capability and I am someone who is authorized to teach them therefore in my hands lie the freedom and the wonderful future of the next generation.

True Enough. RVQ

                     True Enough.
                                                    RVQ

In the valley they met
And the passion soon germinate
How exclusive the feeling
Of this two bounded in giving

Impediments deter them
Yet they’re firm to win the Gem
Soon they passed
And together at last.

In matrimony they were united
And promised not to get separated
Problems that depress
Solving it with all their best!
Galore with profundity
He who never been a skimpy.
And she in all his success

Measures not the gratitude express.

The Reflection

The Reflection
                                         RVQ

In August I met my best chum
And everyday she’s full of charm
Pretty absurd, how she understood
Little and great things in me, not everybody could

She listens to my problems
And helps me ease the burdens
She attended into my dreams
Even how illusive it may have been

She never judge and degrade me
She simply accepts me
Knowing exactly how I feel
is something on her worth and real

She does not bother to interrupt
Instead abet me to have a recap.
Patiently listens, and never seem to betray
I’m happy to prove she didn’t go away.

I want to let her feel and make her understand
How much she meant; that we may walk hand in hand
But when I tried; I felt astonishment
Touching her tuck me into great bewilderment!

I extended my hand to grasp and never let her go
Only to confirm what the reflection show
                                  It was she all throughout

No other than she but doubt.

History Poem; KKK

History Poem; KKK

The Filipinos were all condemned
by the invaders whose aims are to profit and devour
the beauty and treasures of our country
and they passed
this triggered the Filipinos to avenged
and made this friendship sealed in blood to pour

Round in a flickering table lamp
Established this revolutionary society
of weak yet willing to get away from this grump
like these kawals, katipun and bayani

Here a government has been done
Increasing their number in a triangular mode
In a Masonic order called KKK son
Materialized this red piece of cloth into sword

In August 19, 1896 betrayal are common
With this Teodoro Patinio revealed the group

The cazadores

History Poem; :Katipunan"

THE KATIPUNAN WAYS
 RVQ

Three hundred years of pains and struggles
Now they were freed at last!
But the memories that it bear
Could not but to remember

Once they were in the flickering table lamp
Established this revolutionary camp
of weak yet willing to get away from slavery
bayani, katipun, and kawals in misery

Here a government has been done
In a Masonic order called KKK the son
Increasing their number in a triangular mode
To materialized this red piece of cloth into sword

Arellano, Diwa, Bonifacio and Plata,
The primer of courage, plans and Cartilla
Lakambini, Josefa, Trinidad and Melchora
Are of the few who rendered their parola

“Ang dapat mabatid ng mga Tagalog” intensify
As “Viva La Independencia Filina” cry
The “battle of Pinaglabanan” recognized the enraged sons
These Katipuneros, firm and gallant young man

Their secret was discovered, many surrendered
While much was encourage as the cazadores arrest.
Rizal died while Bonifacio brothers were in execution
This is to Awaken the People to make petition.

The revolution causes a hundreds of lives
But soon their freedom long survives
The benefit of the early discovery
Give Filipino people freedom to luxury.

Filipinos nowadays are socially, economically,

Intellectually, religiously, and politically free.

Tagalog Poem "Ang Maestra"

ANG MAESTRA
                                                               RVQ

Poem; A Gift

A Gift
RVQ

She was a price as well as a gift
Given to me, whenever I’m in grief
I didn’t asked for this
But he just seemed to be pleased

She became my religion
Who enlightened my vision
She carries my soul
And to direct it was a goal.

No one could ever contradict
How she gives a verdict
Worries, sadness and grief
My pains are nothing because she keeps
It’s wonderful to know
There’s this person who could show
That life is perfect with discipline
It’s a mother so loving.

Shaping a Utopian City D’ jolly dreamer

           Shaping a Utopian City
          D’ jolly dreamer
                  St

A clean and serene city in the midst of this somewhat chaotic world… A city of everyone’s choice… A city of disciplined, healthy, educated, learned and God-fearing citizens… A city of peoples who find unity in diversity… A city with promising greatness and fame like Camelot… A city synonymous to paradise… It’s the city of my dreams – a utopian city.
Does it exist? I would promptly say “No!”. So far, I haven’t heard one to exist nor to have existed on any part of this universe. Would it be possible to shape or establish one? In quick reply, I would confidently say “Yes!”. To establish a utopian city may sound ridiculous but not impossible. Objectively speaking, it is very much possible although it is not an easy task. It is a gargantuan task to be shared by its would-be citizens. Without a doubt, it is time-consuming and definitely challenging. Well, how should the citizens do it?
To establish a utopian city requires radical transformation - transformation on the part of different peoples who are more than willing to take part in shaping or establishing such city. Moreover, such transformation may only take place if these individuals assimilate and practise the golden types of love that subsume man’s necessary actions. These precious types of love include: love for God, love for one’s self, love for one’s family, love for fellowmen, and love for the environment.
Love for God is the first and most important type of love that every utopian citizen must possess. Why? It is simply because the other four types follow if this already exists. If one has sincere love for God, he will love himself, his family, his fellowmen, and his environment in order for him to be considered a veritable citizen in the utopian city. Consequently, he will value everything that the Divine Providence has created in this wide expanse of the world.
Love for one’s self is the second type of love that entails numerous acts on the part of any individual. If one truly loves God, he should love his own self as he is created by God. In doing so, he must practice a healthy lifestyle by taking and doing things in moderation. As such, he should engage in sports in order to be away from the lure of worldly pleasures or vices. An aspiring utopian citizen must study hard to be prepared to soar on greater heights in the not so low horizon. Furthermore, if one truly loves himself he will plan before entering into the gates of commitment such as marriage (for in doing so, he will be responsible enough to provide the essentials for his family). Meanwhile, he should learn how to forgive others in order for his heart to be cleansed from bitterness – that he will be a model to those who are bitter in life. Anyone therefore who dreams to be accepted in this city must exemplify a virtuous life…life that is worthy of emulation. Above all else, he must not lose hope in shaping the city of his dreams (as it appears impossible) by transforming himself first.
Love for one’s family is the third fundamental type of love. It is needed in shaping a utopian city for the reason that it is the basic unit of society. If one loves his family, he will start with the rudiments which are needed to establish a family worthy of a utopian city. As such, he must be a respectful and grateful offspring; and for all intents and purposes, a cooperative and kind sibling. Accordingly, he must respect and help his parents in doing household chores. As a sibling, he must guide his other brother/s and sister/s to study well and aim for excellence; and remind them to take care of themselves… as their parents find joy in seeing them responsible and healthy. And later on, he must persuade and lead his brothers and sisters in supporting their parents emotionally, spiritually and financially as they grow old.
Love for fellowmen, the fourth type of love, is to be included for the following practical reasons: (a) societies can never be peaceful without the power of love; and (b) peoples can never be in harmony with their fellowmen without their initiative to love one another. There must be this type of love as it is the glue that binds the different families together. One must not only know and befriend his neighbors but he must also jubilate with them in their successes. On the other hand, he must sympathize or even empathize with them whenever they face adversaries or tribulations in life. Being aware of the differences in religion, he must respect his fellowmen as he wants them to respect him. Meanwhile, he must forgive his fellowmen if they have trespassed against him; yet, he must let them realize their mistakes in order for them to be careful next time. Furthermore, he must participate actively in community activities and cooperate with others in implementing projects in the society. Finally, for the improvement of the utopian city, one must unselfishly share his God-given talent and resources (if it’s necessary) without personal reservations.
The ultimate type of love that every utopian citizen must learn is love for the environment. A city must not only be serene but it must also be clean. As a citizen of this utopian city, one must remember the trite yet meaningful saying: “Cleanliness is next to godliness”. Hence, he must have a sense of volunteerism in cleaning the environment. He must model such by sweeping his backyard regularly and by putting things into order. In addition, he must be smart enough to remind his parents if their cars - a smoke-belching car worsens air pollution - are causing air pollution so that they will let it be repaired. Or better still, he may traverse the city using a bicycle so that others will see the advantages of it especially on the environment. Lastly, he must plant trees to beautify the environment as well as to prevent flash floods and soil erosion.
Yes! A utopian city may be shaped. It may be established provided that such types of love should be assimilated by everyone who wishes to belong to this perfect city.
However, there are still two big questions left to be addressed: “When would it be established?” and “Who should be the pioneer citizens?”. Well, with folks who are willing to imbibe the golden types of love within their heart, a utopian city of dreams may soon (in the very near future) come into reality. And I – I have resolved to be one of those individuals - I am starting it now. At this moment, there’s a ray of hope for the city of my dreams because as a responsible student, I have the will-power to dream of a utopian city; as an idealistic youth, I have the distinct power to initiate transformation; and, as a young educator, I have the tremendous power to influence others’ lives. With those aforementioned, I am certain that a UTOPIAN CITY, the city of my dreams, is already waiting to come down upon the horizon.

*utopian-a description given to a place that is perfect or paradise-like
*chaotic-disorderly
*Camelot - In English Literature, it is the famous place where King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table gather
                   for merry-making .

A story to share; The Censure of Truth

The Censure of Truth
                                                              RVQ

I hear the sound, huge voice blaring…calling, I hear it once more the birds went on their nest with fright. Animals are dumping, anywhere they come, and piping trumpets blowing with the horns, the calling that suggest no one is to be exempted. I hear it once again, footsteps from afar shouting some other are crying and real emotions I feel on their voices, some are laughing, rejoicing with a child. Different and unfamiliar faces I see coming, many they are in a line pointing into one direction. This time I see him, a familiar black hat, terrified and surprised to see him once more, but no! Not yet this time… how did it happen? His coming straight forward into my direction. He is in black hat, black jacket, black pants, black leather shoes which I use to clean before, a white t-shirt, it was my mother’s gift I remember. I’m sure it is him walking like he use to do, very slow like when he use to when we were in the park sometime ago but it was exactly  twenty- five years ago. I look and he is going near me now, he doesn’t have any wrinkles I used to feel before as I touch his face, I know it was him, I can feel it. But mother and father have wrinkles on their faces how did it happen? She was his daughter… ah no matter, for as long he is here. I went inside the house and called out my mother, mother, mother grandpa is back I shouted, I called her again. I’m excited to tell the news as I enter I see no one, I just left them in the living room, but they are not there and the television was left opened, I went in the kitchen, in the bedroom, bathroom, even in the study room but their nowhere to be found. My parents are weak and old how could they possibly go out that far? I worried as I tried to call out my husband in his office to tell him about the problem, but to my surprise as I dialed the phone I was disappointed to know that there is no dial tone. I went out but when I step on the porch lightning and thunder started to flash which brought terror into my heart, I need to see my parents, I need to see grandpa they might get sick. I worried for my two kids who are still in school that time, I get an umbrella in the kitchen and I went out of the house.

One thing I wanted to do is to see my family and after we’ll plan for a re-union and this is going to be a big party and I’ll make sure it will be memorable. As I step out it was dark, I called out the name of my grandpa but nothing I heard in reply, I saw him continuously walking and to my surprise his already meters away from the house and he was trying to line himself to a group of people in line directing their way into a that bright and gleaming staircases and there I noticed an open door above. Boys and girls, young and old are rejoicing as they marched and they enter into the door, others I saw crying begging to let them enter. I decided to follow my grandpa and I tried to approach him saying grandpa let’s go home, you don’t need to follow them,  I waited for an answer but he seemed not to hear me and he doesn’t care with my existence unlike before that he’ll kiss me and put me in his lap. I misses those, I followed him still and we entered into a gate, gradually the old clothes I wear changes into a new white colored clothes I was astonished to see others too with the same changes my grandpa’s black colored clothes wee changed into white, we are all in white this time . As he went on I asked him again “grandpa where are we?” he just look at me and smiled, I don’t know what his smile means but I believe his happy “don’t you remember me?” I asked, again no answer “I’ am your granddaughter, I’ve changed I know it’s been twenty and five years I know grandpa-but it was still me” he nodded and I continued this time, I saw figures coming… I identified one and then two and soon all of them. I recognized my mother, beside her my father, my sister, brothers and behind them my husband, children, a neighbor, my best friend and other relatives. I’m glad to see them all here at a time, “oh, nanay and tatay I’ve been looking for you” I said they did not answer, I continued as I tell that grandpa is here. I want us to have a grand reunion as I look onto his direction. Only to be surprised that he was already far behind “come let us talk to grandpa” but no one obeyed as if they do not know me and they went on their ways. With different directions they go, they have their own business to make, my youngest daughter innocently played with the other children there, my mother went in the garden and picked some flowers in there, my father with my two brother used and played the guitars. I tried to talk to my mother and she gave in reply a flower but she does not really care with what I’m saying.
The place was beautiful and quiet, I walk and walk until I saw people who are gathered in a kingdom of gold…curious about it, I entered into the hall , happy and merry the faces I see listening into the voice of  gladness and they were free. He said words of wisdom which delighted everybody. Many times I tried to look at him but each time its difficult and impossible for me.
I see people kneeling down, praying, and singing to give praise . I cried with so much pain, and anguish it seemed that my family had forgotten me. Made me feel terribly mediocre- I prayed that I may be able to turn back the hands of time, before this time comes I may let them feel first how much I love and care for them, now I knew that when a person die he will definitely know nothing of himself, his past, his love ones, everything on him will vanished. I cried and cried, begging to let me go back and redo
What is supposed to. I need to correct my mistakes, I need to say sorry, and I need to do more good deeds and contribute as much as I could- till I heard  a voice this time it was smooth, different- a feminine voice. It was my mother, gently shaking my shoulder “wake up  my dear, wake up” she said I immediately woke up and hug her tightly, she asked what had happened  as she wipes away my tears. I asked her if I had been a good daughter and asked for forgiveness, she assured me that it was all forgiven “why are you crying? She asked and there I narrated everything.
Suddenly, my father opened the door and asked if we’re ready- we’re going to attend a Sunday mass. Yes, it is Sunday a brand new day to start.

The end.

Teaching Pronunciation, the goal of instruction is threefold:

SPEAKING

The teaching of speaking is not an easy task as you believe it to be, it endures hard work and patience from the teacher.

Teaching Pronunciation, the goal of instruction is threefold:
  • To enable our students to understand and be understood
  • To build their confidence in entering communicative situations and
  • To enable them to monitor their own speech based on input from the environment

In the past, pronunciation instruction usually focused on the articulation of consonants and vowels and the discrimination of minimal
Pairs. In recent years, the focus has shifted to include a broader emphasis on suprasegmental features such as stress and intonation.

Dalton and Seidlhofer list six communicative abilities related to pronunciation:

  • Prominence: how to make salient the important points we make
  • Topic management: how to signal or recognize where one topic ends and another begins
  • Information Status: how we mark what we assume to be shared knowledge as opposed to something new
  • Turn-taking: when to speak, and when to be silent, how to lead the floor to somebody else
  • Social meanings and roles: how to position ourselves with our interlocutors in terms of status
  • Degree of involvement: how to convey our attitudes, emotions

Traditionally, the sound system has been described and taught in a building block fashion:

Sounds           syllables                       phrases and thought groups          extended discourse

Thought Groups:

In natural discourse, we use pauses to divide our speech into manageable chunks called thought groups.

Prominence:

Within each thought group, there is generally one prominent element, syllable that is emphasized, usually by lengthening it and moving the pitch up or down.
The prominent element depends on context but generally represents information that is either
  1. new
  2. in contrast to some other previously mentioned information.
  3. Or simply the most meaningful or important item in the phrase.

Intonation
Thus far, we have looked at how speech was divided up into thought groups marked by pauses, and how within each thought group one prominent element is usually stressed.
Intonation pattern do vary but certain general patterns prevail.

Most teachers find difficulty in teaching speaking because of the following reasons:

·         Time consuming
·         Subjective scoring
·         Unstable language sample

Pro achievement speaking test:
        Achievement base
        Proficiency base

Teachers want test that are:
  1. Systematic and time efficient
  2. Achievement based
  3. Less subjectively scored

Different types of tests:
    • Authentic tests- taught and tested in class rooms
    • Periodic tests- topic lessons are put together and after the whole year given to the students as their final exams

Roles of a Teacher

The communication skill of a teacher is a necessary factor that has to be considered. It is believed that one has to be a good communicator, a fluent speaker and in order to become an effective teacher. The posture, self esteem and the smart personality of a teacher are some of the contributing factors to the totality of a teacher. Dr. Conchita Temporal is the classroom teacher during the observation, with her ways of introducing herself with the student observers her confidence was observed to boost out. Courteous words she used were some of the concrete evidences of how well kept and manage she is as a teacher. The observer noticed that she can fluently speak in both languages, Filipino and English, the time given was truly short but at that expanse of time the observer proved that she is well trained and she is very good teacher of the language same as true in literature subjects.

Re-post "Who is a Teacher?"

Reflection:
Who is the teacher?
If you are going to ask me, who is the teacher I idolized most, what are the characteristics? I would certainly answer you that I like teachers who have passion for the profession. Someone who works not only for the benefits she may get from the job but of course the knowledge she may share as a teacher.
If I will be a teacher someday, I would follow all the teachings and pieces of advice my teachers have give.
I’ve succeed from the previous ways of my teachers how they passionately teach, how they give their time, how they sacrifice for the benefit of their students because they do believe that these students are the hopes of the humanity and the world.
Like Mrs. Mariles Aquino, I saw her passion on the teaching profession. I saw how she manage to prepare the lesson to make her students better understand. She is one of the teacher I idolized in fact, she is one teacher I would not hesitate to share problems with and for this reason I do believe that she can live the life of a real teacher.
What are the things she does?
Mrs. Mariles Aquino, a speech teacher. She actually gives time to her students to ponder on the lesson and she gives time for clarifications. Actually, she has a wide room for comments and suggestions from students. In short she levels herself to the students.
She photocopies materials that are helpful to her students. She manages to stay glamorous despite the so many works she have.
What are things a teacher must possess?

A teacher for me a teacher should be a qualified teacher. Meaning she must be a passer of a qualifying exam, anybody can be a teacher, anyone in fact can teach but the problem arouse when the teacher is not professionally prepared.
A teacher must have passion for the profession, also for the students. A qualified teacher in a way is useless if she does not have love for teaching and love for her students. So for me the love for the job and the people you serves is second to the most important.
A teacher must be kind, understanding and work oriented. These qualities are very much important this is so because the relationship between teacher and the students must be develop along the way.

How can I become one?
This is one question that entails promises and hopes for the future, however, I am in this endeavour because I love to teach. I wanted to become a teacher so I may legally impart my knowledge to the young and earn their thrust and respect later.

To become a teacher in name is much easier than becoming a teacher with pledge. Why because a teacher by name can be gain throughout time, it is definite and for sacrifices you’ll be able to top it. While a teacher with oath will be best work for a lifetime and most of the times even after you die that’s the time people will realized the things you did for them.

And the world we live in will (12) _ _ _ _ _ again in grace
Then why do we keep (13) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ life,
Wound this earth, crucify its (14) _ _ _ _?
Though its plain to see this world is heavenly, be God's glow.

We could fly so high; let our (15)  _ _ _ _ _ _ never die.
