Characteristics
to observe: Communication skills, Questioning techniques, Classroom management,
Classroom discipline and strategies.
Communication skill of a
teacher is one of the important factors to consider. A teacher must have good
communication ability; s/he should therefore remember that speech is an
essential part of daily life. Second, the teacher must remember that speech is
the process of communicating meaning from one person to another. Third, a
teacher must not fail to realize that anyone of the students can become an
effective communicator; communication can be in a written or oral form.
According to Mrs. Mariles Aquino, she prefers the oral form as she is a speech
teacher, she believes in the importance of the above mentioned qualities, in
regard she never fails to consider and apply the following on her real
classroom teaching. She also admitted that it is her passion to talk; she
believes that in this way she can better affect the lives of her students. The
observer however, agrees in it since it was sinned during the observation
period. She interacts with her students clearly, she gets nearer to her
students whenever she can not hear what they are saying in the same way she do
this whenever the students can not hear her or she mange to repeat it all over.
With her questioning techniques, is awesome because patience in her teachings
is visible whenever the students fail to give her the exact o concrete
definition she tries to ask another student and she does not forget to give
compliments to her students by simply saying “thank you”. Classroom management
is as important as disciplining the students, in addition it also entails the
over all management of the classroom before the class starts she usually ask
the students to pick up pieces of papers, wrappers that has been scattered on
the floor, she ask to arrange the chairs properly and she proceeds immediately
with the daily routines of praying afterwards she go on with the lesson proper.
The direct instruction strategy is mostly observed since it was the teacher who
usually provides for her students. Independent type of study is also applied
since the teacher manages to give each student their individual assignments and
in the ending part of the semester she gave them group activity that will
include each member to participate in a one-act play. They are also tasked to
make an output to showcase the playa, a portfolio or a simple album.
