English Course for kids



Overview: This course aims in making students become an efficient and effective English Communicators. Therefore, to become a better communicator one must learn the Basics of Grammar. Grammar involves the parts of speech; they are the essential building blocks to teaching students to communicate and well in English. Understanding the parts of speech and how they fit together makes writing and reading easy. Building Language Arts skills on the eight parts of speech can be a fun learning experience if taught creatively and with enthusiasm.

Identifying Nouns and Verbs



Introduction
1.       The teacher starts the lesson by letting students write on the board anything they want. They can draw or write the word, anything that pops out in their minds.
2.       The teacher discusses the definitions of NOUN. She elicits major answers from students based from their answers on the board.
3.       The teacher divides the board into two columns; she designates ‘Singular and Plural’. She then asks students to write the equivalent of words in singular and plural terms.
4.       She then introduces the ‘Count and Uncountable Nouns’ together with ‘Proper and Improper nouns’ using the same examples.
*The teacher makes sure the students understand the lessons well.

5.       The teacher sets the class in pairs. Then she hands a ‘Vocabulary list’ Person A will have to read each word to her partner-Partner B will have to distinguish what category the word belongs.

9.       The teacher asks the students to line up. Each student should be able to construct a sentence applying the lessons learned.
Game: each student must be able to use any of the lessons; she then uses the name of the next person to complete the thought. The idea/s must realistic. EX: Rina and Allan. Rina: He is a boy. The boy is Allan. Boy:Allan are Common and Proper nouns
10.   The teacher hands them a written assessment and finds out how well they have understood.

2.      The teacher introduces a new game, “Travelers’ Game”
Mechanic: The class splits into two teams on opposite sides of the room. A student from one side of the room goes to the other team and chooses an individual student. The first student states a sentence but leaves out the verb Ex: “The girl ______ food. The student from the second team has to provide a verb that agrees with the subject, or the first student takes him to the other team. If the student from the second team gives a correct answer, both students stay with the second team. The teams take turns doing this until time runs out. The team with the most students wins.
3.      Write an identical number of subject nouns and verbs on small cards. Some of the nouns and verbs must be singular and some must be plural. Place the cards face down in random order. The students take turns turning over pairs of cards. If the two cards are a verb and a noun, and they match in terms of subject-verb agreement, then the student keeps the cards. At the end of the game the student with the most cards wins.

4.      The students are asked to write a composition; Students should be able to write their experiences in an ‘Real-experience’ into a paragraph form 
5.      The teacher hands a table with (Past/Simple Present/Present Participle/Past Participle) to the students, they should be able to write and complete the table. Each student should be able to write at least one and complete the entire row.

Introduction
1.      The teacher presents a ‘Mystery box with four holes’. The students insert their hands inside each holes, the students say something about what they have felt inside the box.

1.      The teacher shows a model to the student, the students describe what they see in the model.
2.      Next, the teacher gradually increases the characteristics of the model. As it increases, the students should be able to notice and say, how the model improves or otherwise. Ex: A glass of water, the teacher increases the amount of water inside. The students should be able to say; ‘The glass is half-full of water.’
